Marriage Equality Comes to CA

The Supreme Court of the State of California ruled today that the laws of the state limiting marriage to members of the opposite sex are unconstitutional, and that the state has no compelling interest in retaining the traditional definition of marriage. Extra extra, read all about it!

The 4-3 decision, will certainly bring with it the usual rancor and war of words from the vocal radical right, that believe that God loves his creation so much that he wants that creation to follow lock step to the writings of people who have long since passed away, because of those writing’s supposed divinity. Oh to have been a writer in the dark ages, the things you could get away with - a thought becomes the written word, and like a snowball rolling down a snowy hill, the thought grows larger, and eventually destroys things in it’s path that do not bend to the will of the force of gravity.

The decision will also most assuredly bring much happiness to the lives of our GLBT brothers and sisters, their friends and family, and perhaps even Brad and Angelina may now find it an acceptable climate to wed in California.

Today the CA Supreme Court, shone a ray of sunlight on that snowball, melting it and letting it’s water flow to nourish the lives of others in ways heretofore denied.

Great news, but I confess I find it hard to understand why America still has such hang-ups about Gay marriage.

Both Spain and Britain have had civil partnerships for a couple of years. These civil partnerships (aka Gay Weddings) extend the same legal rights to same sex couples as marriage.

Most of its pretty basic stuff, like the waiving of inheritance tax between spouses, the right to be treated as next of kin (e.g. during an illness.) Its hard to understand why this causes such outrage. But then again homophobia is always rather difficult to rationalise.

Avoid friends who cause you to increase delusions, and rely upon those who increase your virtue. This you should take to heart.
