The year was 2004, the night of the Iowa Caucuses, an enthusiastic third place finisher, the Governor of Vermont Howard Dean, spoke to the gathered crowd of energetic supporters early, acknowledging his defeat to Senators John Kerry (MA) and John Edwards (NC), the first and second place finishers respectively.
History would find Charlie and me watching the above scene live on our television screen, while heading to bed for the night. I cringed, when the good Doctor’s unfortunate ooh rah speech screeched from our television speakers. I felt a my heart fall, and told Charlie, how I felt that we may have just witnessed the end of Howard’s run for the White House. Both of us being supporters - I had my DEAN 04 license plates on my car, we had our bumper stickers, yard signs, t-shirts, and we both donated to his campaign multiple times - Charlie tried to convince me that it was bad, but not enough for him to get out of the race over it. I know how I felt robbed, because I whole heartedly wanted Howard to be our next President. It wasn’t fair, that damn microphone they gave him, why did he have to let loose like that?
True supporters are forgiving of a multitude of sins, this explains the 28 percent of die hard supporters of the current Bush Administration. Supporters can look the other way when their chosen, performs poorly, injures the truth, and picks gaffes out of thin air like a magician pulls your card from the shuffled deck.
Some times it’s difficult to tell when it’s over, but upon historical reflection, it may not be so hard to define. Everyone now accepts the Dean Scream, and third place finish in Iowa as the beginning of the end, so too will we see clearly the beginning of the end of the Hillary Clinton campaign some day soon. It may be the 11 straight loses after Super Tuesday, or the Bosnia duck and cover reminiscing that turned out to be a meet and greet when the footage was located.
But it happened some time ago, and many of her supporters have blinked, like true supporters are apt to do. She continued on, when the fates were already unfurled, and her supporters became enablers. Like a junky getting a fix from their dealer, they ponied up some greenbacks to feed the ego driven campaign addiction.
I just hope that the time between June 3rd, and the Democratic National Convention in Denver will be enough of a rehab, for her and her enabling supporters to get clean and sober. Nobody likes a relapsing drunk or junky making a fool of themselves at an otherwise enjoyable party.

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article Supporters, Enabling Her Addiction | All American Queer, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
