A More Perfect Union

One of the fundamental goals of our founding document, the Constitution of the United States of America. The Preamble states:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, ensure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

More than 133 million Americans exercised our right to vote to select the next President yesterday, with over 53% casting their vote for Senator Barack Obama.



Last night we celebrated the victory along with the others at the Democratic Party Party in Columbus, Ohio. When Ohio was called for Obama, the gathered crowd erupted with joyous hollers, clapping, and tears. Cameras clicked, and video cameras rolled to capture the moment in history and the reactions of the assembled. Several photographers have pictures and video of me with tears running down my face looking up at the big screen tv in the ballroom.

I fully expected the victory and had planned the day after off in advance. The long winter of the last 8 years of Republican rule certain to come to an end in 75 more days - causes me to break out in dance from time to time.

I find myself easily moved to tears, sharing in the common spirit of a nation watching the news reports, and the first hand experiences, and wonder how long I’ll be wearing my heart on my sleeve. While I want to experience the stay. Like the story of the Grinch who stole Christmas, my heart grew larger last night, and I know I’m not alone in that feeling.

Just over 4 years ago, I wrote of my jealousy that Ohio didn’t have a Barack Obama, and now not only does Ohio have Barack Obama, but all 49 of the other states have Barack Obama too!
